Superopapotamus Bowl XLIII = 6 more weeks of Winter

This past Sunday, ALL Americans: young and old; male and female; dog and cat, gathered around the "boob tube" to embrace and relish in an annual, national tradition. Even in the most conservative of households the chili was spicy and the beer was cold. No matter whose team was in or out; or what team would win or lose...we all gathered together...as a country...ritually united.

It was Super Bowl Sunday!!!

"God, I love football", (sorry to interject)!!

As previous years before, I spent this year's Super Bowl Sunday at a house party. As always, there was food, and beer, and great conversation; but this year something was distinctively different.

My very best friend Laura and her boyfriend, Steve generously hosted the soiree. The total guest count peaked around 15...just a small gathering. We all exchanged witty banter and entertained each others stories while we stuffed our faces with Frito's and chocolate chip cookies (damn those cookies were good)! Behaving just like the rest of the world.

But; at some point in the evening (as we all gawked at the TV), I remember looking around and realizing that every person in the room was part of my new tradition. For the first time (in a long time) I felt at home.

I'm not gonna bore you with who was there and who wasn't. And it's not important to mention that the E-Trade baby stole the advertising campaign, or that the "Boss" slid and crotch-thrusted the camera, or that Larry Fitzgerald shined on the field, or that the Steelers brought home their 6th Lombardi trophy (YAY to Laura)...but, what IS important is that I found my family.

And so the story goes...groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow the following day - meaning 6 more weeks of winter; and yes, the country is in a recession; and yes, many of us are unemployed...and; yes, we are scared. But, we must not lose our hope and our trust.

Let Super Bowl Sunday be a reminder of what you have...of what we all have...

We are family; and within each other, faith will persevere...

2009 Wah Hoo!!

So it's 2009. We have a new president, lesbians have taken prime time, plaid is cool and I'm listening to Barry Manilow...the world is at peace...at least as my eyes see it.

Thank goodness America is getting "sexy back"!!

Remember when it was cool to pay too much for everything? I can't wait to tell my kids that.

I have to admit, I wasn't on the OBAMA train for some time. I was bitter, jaded and jilted... towards any political leader. I was ready to write in "Dr. Suess" for president. I was just looking for someone to love our country again.

But, my opinion has since changed...

I believe that something great is coming, and that my generation will indeed be a part of it. I'm not sure if it will be our president elect or the people that follow him...but I do know something is about to change (for the better). The United States, as I know it and as you know it...is going to mean something again!!

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America".

GO AMERICA!!

PS: And I personally thank God and the U.S. for sports, reality TV, ice cream...and, well...beer.

December 23, 2008 - My Virgin Blog

So this is my first time to publicly blog. I guess I felt the need to acknowledge that.

It's now two days before Christmas and, as usual, I am not feeling what many refer to as "the spirit". I'm actually surprised I even said the word...Christmas that is. I know politically "Happy Holidays" has now become the greeting of choice, which I'm pretty pleased with...not because I'm politically correct, but mainly because I don't have to say the words...Merry Christmas! Bah Hum Bug (times 50). Who's really Merry out there. I know I'm not. HA!...hum bug!

No seriously, I'm not a total Scrooge, just 99.75%. Actually, if I'm being truly honest. I love the holidays. I love the food, the parties, the relentless gift giving. I used to spend $50 just on wrapping paper. But I've recently discovered that in order to reap the full benefits of the festive season you need three important and necessary components: Money, a significant other, and booze. Seeing that this year I only have access to one of these, I'm doomed...potentially drunk, but doomed nonetheless. HA! Have you stopped reading yet?

Of course I'm making comedy out of my begrudging attitude. It really isn't that bad, and that is why I'm writing today...

For me, Christmas is about love, my faith, my family and the wonderful friends I have been blessed with. For these are the things that give me hope, peace and contentment. Without them I would be nothing.

So really, I don't need Christmas...because I get everything I could ever want every single day!
